St Luke's Care Home
We found a warm and caring atmosphere, with staff providing kind, professional support to residents across the home’s three units. Residents appeared well cared for and relaxed. Families and visitors spoke very positively about the care, describing staff as attentive and respectful. Activities were taking place during our visit, and we were pleased to see meaningful engagement and personal touches like birthday decorations and resident-made crafts.
During our visit, we spoke with four members of staff, three residents, and several family members and visitors.
While the home has many strengths, we did observe some areas for improvement. Several storage rooms were left unlocked, menus were out of date, and some communal areas were cluttered or in need of repair. There is also room for enhancing dementia-friendly features, particularly in signage, décor, and toilet facilities. Some flooring in the conservatory posed a trip hazard and was awaiting urgent repair.
Response from the Home
The management team at St Luke’s welcomed our feedback and have already begun addressing many of the issues raised. These include:
- Prioritising repairs to the conservatory floor
- Updating menus daily
- Adding more artwork and dementia-friendly features as part of a wider refurbishment
- Auditing and improving signage, pull cords, and tap labels
- Reminding staff to lock storage areas and adjusting signage where appropriate
- Exploring personalised door designs to enhance a sense of homeliness
We were pleased with the home’s commitment to improvement and thank them for their open and constructive response.
We’d also like to thank the team at St Luke’s Care Home for their warmth and for welcoming us into their home.
