GP Practice Visits – Overview Report
Healthwatch Halton carried out a programme of Enter and View visits to GP practices across Halton during 2025. These visits focused on understanding patient experiences of accessing GP services, the practice environment, and communication, alongside observing how practices operate on a typical day.
The overview report brings together learning from all visits, highlighting common themes, shared challenges and examples of good practice across the borough.
Key themes from the visits
- Patients consistently praised staff attitudes and the quality of care once appointments were secured
- Access to appointments, particularly by telephone at peak times, was the most common concern raised
- Digital systems worked well for some patients but created barriers for others, especially those less confident online
- Continuity of care mattered to patients, particularly those with ongoing or complex conditions
- Practice environments were generally clean and welcoming, though some shared or smaller sites faced space and layout constraints
Where practices provided responses, these are included in the individual reports and outline actions already taken or planned to address patient feedback.
