Upton Rocks Surgery

Healthwatch Halton carried out an Enter and View visit to Upton Rocks Surgery in October 2025 as part of our programme of GP practice visits across Halton. During the visit we observed the practice environment, spoke with patients, and gathered feedback about access to appointments and experiences of care.

Overall, patients spoke positively about staff attitudes and the support they receive. Some concerns were raised about continuity of care, access to GP appointments for ongoing issues, and aspects of the physical environment.

Key highlights

  • Patients consistently described staff as friendly, caring and approachable
  • Same-day appointments were available for many patients
  • A wide range of additional services are offered, including physiotherapy and mental health support
  • Some patients reported difficulty seeing a GP for ongoing problems and raised concerns about continuity
  • The small waiting area, signage and non-functioning equipment were noted as areas for improvement

Practice response
The practice responded to the report, clarifying staffing arrangements and explaining the role of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and First Contact Physiotherapists in supporting access to care. They confirmed that noticeboards have since been reorganised, blood pressure machines are available to loan, and contractual requirements influence the volume of information displayed. The practice also noted that some estate and parking issues sit outside their control.
